    Wireless Adapter Woes

So I partitioned the hard drive on my new laptop today in order to dual boot Windows 8 with Windows 7. All is working fine, with the exception of the wireless adapter. Windows 8 does not recognize the wireless drivers, and I'm currently uncapable of hardwiring the laptop due to the location of the router.

My issue is multi-faceted. A) Even though this model laptop has been on the market for 6+ months, when I head to ASUS' website, they don't list the wireless adapter that is currently installed. In Windows 7 Device Manager, the card is listed as a Realtek RTL8188CE PCI-E Wireless N card. However, ASUS doesn't bother listing anything made by realtek in the model series for the K53e laptop.

So, I headed to realteks website and downloaded the software for the driver, threw it on a thumb drive, and booted into Windows 8. The software won't run due to the fact that it's not a supported operating system.

Any ideas of what I can do to resolve this issue?

    Realtek

Extract it to a folder. Right click in device manager. Update driver software. Browse my computer...Let me pick...Have disk...Browse...

Now navigate to extracted folder and double click on the .inf. Click ok then click next and it will install.

(lol - is the router in a sealed lockbox?)

I believe I tried this method and couldn't navigate to the .inf file in specific but will give it another go. Other problem may be the fact that I have 3 unknown devices in my dev. manager and I may be forcing a driver to the wrong item. THanks for the quick reply - will post with success/failure.

You can tell which is the correct one by the hardware id.

Right click, Properties, Details tab. Change dropdown to say Hardware ids - then compare the vendor id and/or device here:

    PCI Vendor and Device Lists

    Realtek = 10EC.

It will install fine. If not, you're doing something wrong. You're welcome.

Use the net8192ce.inf in the correct folder for your operating system, depending on 32 or 64 bit:

    Win7x86 or Win7x64

I navigated down through the submenus to Win7X64 for the driver, and selected it - Microsoft automatically kicks back a message say it could not find a driver.

That's likely due to you not following precisely as shown.

Anyhow, I'll double check things - copy/paste the hardware id lines here.

Issue resolved - I redownloaded the driver software and re-extracted it to my thumb drive. I suspect maybe a corrupted download? Either way, the issues solved - thanks for the help!
