now i dont. so a few days ago i was transfering files back and forth to/from my desktop running vista. there was a few times i couldnt see the vista in the network folder, but after a few minutes id see again. the other day and today, i cant see the vista at all in my network. the vista CAN see the win8.1 and i can retrieve files in a public folder. the funny thing is that when i first set the vista up, i had to set the network location to public..which limits the discovery and not on private..which does allow you to see other computers but hey! it was working. lol till now. ive changed all the nessessary setting on both computers to where they should see each other but ive got one way communication. ive uninstalled, reinstalled, rolled back, updated the drivers for the win8.1, read other forums where nothing is mentioned other than all the problems with the Qualcomm Atheros AR956x wireless network adapter. like i said, ive done all the obvious stuff, restart both computers, routers, etc. any other input would be greatly appreciated. cuz maybe im missing the most obvious thing! haha

i did... and i think i solved it. what i did was rename the network! the instruction say to be sure that network names match such as WORKGROUP, which mine DID match. i went to both computers, renamed the network to HOUSEGROUP and presto!! both computers appear in each others network folders. well like i said, maybe im missing something obvious. i tried EVERYTHING but this. so..its working, for now and hopefully for now on. i find it weird, did one of the computers forget its name? probably the vista. its old (lol)

Thanks, and nice gremlin!! Lol. I think I saw that one hanging around too. When you posted that link, I did re-read it although I practically had it memorized. That's when it came to me about making sure all the computers say the same group name and renamed it. So thanks Popeye!!
