    HOMEGROUP & NETWORKING Problem

    Hi All

I am new to this forum and really hope you can help me out. I have purchased two new computers which are running windows 8.1. My Problem is I cannot get them to network. I have carried out all recommendations for setting up a homegroup, but to no avail.

    Please Help!
    Kenny.

Firewall and/or Internet Security software is the usual culprit. They have to be on the same router also. Homegroup only shares Libraries. If you want to share just a specific folder, use regular Network Sharing.

Hi Broe23, thanks for your reply.

I am using Windows firewall and the only other security software installed is Avast Free anti-virus. I have disabled both of these, but it didnt help. I have also tried sharing a specific folder, but again to no avail. Both pcs are on the same router and have the same workgroup.

My other two XP pcs are still up and running whilst I complete the upgrade and these are networking fine.

I should also mention that the windows 8 pcs are connected to the wifi router and work perfectly online!

Homegroup has been known to screw up on its own from a security fix from Microsoft/Windows update. I personally do not like to use it, because it is very limited in what you can share and how you can share.

Disable home group, set up your peer to peer network as you always have in the past. I share to Authorized users only. Put the same user Name and password on all computers. Window 8 will resist but in the end networking is no different that it ever was I also set my router to assign specific IP addresses to each computer

I've tried setting up a peer to peer network, but the computers just won't talk to each other! Today I purchased a new wireless printer and again this won't talk to the computers. I've disabled windows firewall and avast AV, but this still makes no difference. Could this be an issue with my router? I'm thinking of resetting the router to factory settings on Monday morning to see if that makes a difference.
