removing rogue networks from navigation pane

I went through the tutorials carefully and am unable to get these random networks off that showed up in the pane while I was logging onto an airport's network. They don't appear in the settings choice to ignore. Makes me uneasy to have 6 other folks' networks there.

They are not rogue networks when you are presented with a list of Access Points to connect to. It is common to show a list of all of available SSID's that would be able to connect to. It gets really bad in public places, when people use their Smartphones as WiFi Access Points.

You cannot remove any of the SSID's that are listed on the Network connections. You just have to live with it, when you are using your laptop or tablet in public places. Just make sure that you have File Sharing turned off.

Now if you are seeing a list of other users folders, when you open up Explorer and go to Shared folders. Then you have an issue with either you are connecting to a rogue hotspot, or the person that set up the hotspot is just an idiot and does not know how to manage it properly.

Use a strong computer log in password, make sure your Firewall is enabled when on Public networks, do not publicly share any files or folders.

Try this

PC settings -> Network -> Connections
Manage known networks
Choose a network to forget.

I don't think you can affect what you see in the network list of SSIDs that the adapter is actively seeing.
Only older SSDs that you previously connected that are not in range any longer.

My machine only shows the active SSID.

That's all I can think of, Good luck.

In addition to Bill's post above if you meant listed available wireless networks:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/20085-wireless-network-profile-delete-windows-8-a.html

Thanks Brink. I'll have to remember that tutorial.

How come you know where all the good stuff is anyway? :)

I have to spread some +rep around before I can add to your reputation.
Your reputation is stellar in my book, regardless of what the forum will or will not let me do on a post you wrote.
