Your speeds look correct for your profile with the ISP if you are using WIFI, they are always going to report a little lower. If you connect via WiFi, they should show higher. Every wifi chipset handles the connection differently from another.

I get the same speed with the Intel Dual-Band Wireless-ac 7260 WiFi adapter I have installed in mine and my son's laptops. It is the same if the units are connected via Ethernet or Wifi to either the U-Verse gateway or my AP that I use on the Cisco router I have.

Except I'm not using WiFi, or don't mean to be. The Charter cable line comes into their box, but to provide WiFi for my laptop I'm running the line to my desktop computer through a Linksys router. When I started this thread, I hadn't reinstalled the Linksys software yet - it doesn't seem necessary - and I'm not recalling what the Windows Network connection said. Maybe "Ethernet 2" or something like that. Since then, I have installed it, and now Network in Windows shows the router as an ethernet connection. So I assume, or at least am hoping, that's what I've got, not wireless.

Your setup could be the issue. What is the model of the Linksys Router? If it is capable of running Tomato or one of the other Open router firmware projects, you could try that.

What happens if you connect directly to the Charter Gateway?

Linksys E1200. While dealing with some of the problems that led to the clean reinstall, I got the request to pull the router out and see if there was any difference. There never was. Just ran Shaper with two files downloading. Compare with post 10, which was run well into the evening.

    Connected to server 80.239.168.215.

    Estimating capacity:
    Upstream: 2371 Kbps.
    Downstream: 9633 Kbps.

The measurement will take upto 2.5 minutes. Please wait.

    Checking for traffic shapers:

    Upstream: No shaper detected.
    Median received rate: 2240 Kbps.

    Downstream: No shaper detected.
    Median received rate: 9296 Kbps.

What do your power levels look like on the Gateway that Charter gave you?

You have to connect to the Charter Gateway and then go to the Gateway IP that is listed as "Default Route". Then you will look for the tab that shows Downstream and Upstream power levels and any errors. What is the mfg & model of the Charter Gateway?

    Hi,

I think the setup is most definitely the issue. Start troubleshooting by using other devices with that setup. can your friends laptop be used on the setup? can you use your phone/ipad/tablet.. do you have an older computer to try?

The unit that your Linksys router is connected to.
