    Patriot Box Office network problems

My computer name in Windows 8 is computer1 which the PBO can see in workgroup folder. Problem is when I click on computer1 the PBO ask for a net users ID and PW. Any solution around this? All my hd's are set on sharing with Everyone. I've set up my network to share between computers. I have everything setup same as Windows 7. Never needed a pw in Windows 7.

    Hey there.

I'm not familiar with that hardware whatsoever, but a common way in the Windows environment to avoid being prompted for passwords is to set all user:pass combinations the same exact ones.

If you are talking about the Patriot Box Office and networking it with Windows 8?

These adjustments should work with Windows 8 also.

Apparently there are a few registry and sharing permission adjustments that need to be made.

There are three main registry tweaks required to allow this box to stream on a Windows 7 system. First requires the user to go to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\ and double click on “everyoneincludesanonymous” and set the value from 0 to 1. This adds anonymous users to the “Everyone” sharing group in Windows 7, allowing anonymous users, in this case the Box office to access your shared media folders. Now make sure that when you right click a media folder to share with the Box Office, you set the share group to “everyone”. Next double click on NoLmHash and set it from 1 to 0. Windows 7 does not store a LAN Manger Hash of your user password by default, and the absence of said encypted password prevents proper operation of the Box Office. From here, access HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManSe and double click on “restrictnullsessaccess” and change the value from 1 to 0. Left at one, Windows 7 limits the shared folders accessible to unauthorized users, in this case the Box Office. These issues with the Patriot Box office being properly recognized are slated to be addressed in the next firmware update for the unit.

I'm using Windows 8 and checked those registry settings anyway and they were already set to correct value.

You may also need to go into the "Security" tab of the actual drive and add "Everyone" to the permissions list as well. This adjustment should allow you full access to your files from the Patriot box.

According to the link I posted that had directions for setting this up with Windows 7, it also mentioned a firmware update for the Patriot box which allows it to connect with Windows 7 more seamlessly.

In "Security" Tab, it is set to "Everyone". I have the lastest firmware for my PBO.. "P70 (Rev. 2) for Bootcode 18+ ONLY Firmware (BETA)"

Just out of interest, do you use a 'local' or Microsoft account, when you login to Windows 8?
