Well I ran into an issue where I could not get to the wireless manager easily so I decided to make a nice Windows 8 Wireless Manager Tile for myself!

After a little debugging and selecting the icon I wanted to use(not the one I wanted really) but more on that when someone can help me find the right one!

Anyway I made a vbScript that makes the tile for you and gets you right to the wireless manager from the new Metro Start Menu with a nice little icon!

I am attaching the file in a zip and please feel free to distribute and or make whatever changes. Like finding me the correct icon! Hope this helps others as it helped me!

Cheers!

It is in wlanpref.dll

Do you happen to know which icon number? the line in the script goes ...wlanpref.dll,28 The 28 denotes the icon position. That is the EXACT icon I was looking for and after about 12 other windows res files I settled :( OH BUT NOW!!! I will update and re-upload with the proper icon.

@area 66 - I would agree. I hate people who have made us to worry about bad scripts more than thinking about the helpful ones. I myself would never do something malicious after 20 years in IT fixing issues that other malicious people do. I just knew after I went through my ordeal that this script would be very useful to others who are looking into Windows 8. Honestly they should have this fixed before they release and my script should end of life by then imho.

Thanks for the confidence and as I do more I will share more! I also ran across someone else's script to add reboot/restart/logoff tiles too. I can vouch for it being safe and useful but I will not take credit from the original author even if I cant find his name. Let me know if you want me to add that one too.

Cheers!

Updated for Icon and the second script!

Thank you SIW2!! Proper icon the one you gave me is now in the Wireless Manager Script, attached to this new post.

I am also adding in the Logoff_Shutdown_Restart Script which was not made by me but I find very useful. There are too many steps to shutdown Win8 so having a tile and or a quick menu link of the same is sooo worth it to me that I figure others may want it too. Original author unknown to me but I can vouch for the code in this zip as being safe also.

Cheers!

Yep, I suppose if you are using the start screen - that might be handy.

I don't go anywhere near the start screen ( except for a few seconds at boot up - I haven't figured out how to skip it entirely yet)

Any chance anyone has updated / fixed this? RTM version doesn't support this anymore. Any other work arounds?
