Slow Wifi in Windows 8

After installing Win8 on 2 different PC's with 2 different WLAN adapters I came to the conclusion that my internet speed dropped to half the normal speed (Wired speed has no problems):sarc:.
Searching the net I found "solutions" as updating driver and changing encryption from AES to TKIP, but the problem stays the same.

Has anyone got a working solution?

TnX!

Hi,

You might try changing the channel the router is set to. There is a program that shows the cleanest/clearest channel. You could Google for it if interested. (I forget the name.)

Another good thing to do is set it to use short preamble. Then, also in device manager, make sure your adapter is set to use short preamble too, in Advanced properties.

I would leave it set for AES. That is the best security and the speed hit is so minimal you would not notice. (I get about 102-104 mbps on a 108 mbps router using it - no speed decrease at all.)

I would also update the firmware to the router to latest. Also, update WLAN driver to latest. If it has an Atheros chipset, update from here:

ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows (Atheros?????)

GMan,

Thanks for the reply. I tried all of the above. Still no change.
