For the browser problems. When you install Avast, it creates a local transparent proxy that routes all HTTP (TCP over port 80) connections through Avast, this is the Avast Web-Shield. If this is not working, all connections using HTTP will fail. So, first, open Avast and check the status of the shields. If everything appears to running correctly and you still can't connect or update, it may be your installation is broken in some way. In that case.

    1. Download the avast! Uninstall Utility
    2. You had NIS installed so, download the Norton Removal Tool
    3. Run the Norton removal tool first and reboot
    4. Run the Avast removal tool and reboot (if either removal tool fails, try safe mode - shift+F8 at boot)
    5. Reinstall Avast and see what happens
    Hi Calico,
    thanks for helping.
I did as you suggested. But problem not solved.
Also I am adding some fact------WEB SHIELD worked normally.
FIREWALL SETTINGS of AVAST showed (the firewall graph actually) that it is connected normally to the internet. Also my brodband connection status showed that datas are transferring normally.
Also all the SHIELDS of AVAST worked normally.
In a nutshell,All connections were OK except the numbness of AVAST update & browsers(mozilla, chrome).
Just to be clear, you ran both removal tools, rebooted, reinstalled Avast Internet Security and you still have the same problem?

Whilst I agree with chev65 about the beta status of Windows 8 and third-party security applications, I just installed Avast Internet Security and it does work, so there would appear to be a problem with your installation/configuration. There's a couple more things you can do.

    1. In Avast, open firewall settings, disable the firewall temporally, try and update/connect.
    2. In Avast, go to Maintenance/Support/Generate Support Package Now. Select Basic Information and log files
    3. Generate the report and attach it here.
Thanks Calico, for trying to help me.
For your information,After installing AVAST all worked fine (update and browsers) before reboot.
But after reboot all problems come up again. Also before rebooting,AVAST firewall was turned off.
When I tried to fix it it said--"Firewall could not be started".Although after rebooting, firewall worked fine.

As you said,I am uploading the log files generated. Its in ZIP format.

The above log was before rebotting(after installing AVAST,when everything worked fine.)

The log I am attaching below is after rebotting (when all problems came up again).

(Do you note the differences between the size of the logs, before and after rebooting?)

What kind of account are you using when installing Avast, user or administrator?

I have only one account in the OS i.e. the administrator.
But while installing AVAST I did not run it as an administrator.

If you were logged on with an administrative account during installation that should have been enough. The reason I asked is because the logs show a lot of file access problems, both before and after the reboot. Did you try disabling the firewall after the reboot?

Yeah.I turned AVAST firewall off but nothing happened (I also checked WINDOWS firewall. It was off as a 3rd party internet security was running.)

Unfortunately, I can't see anything in the logs, apart from the Access Denied errors. My only guess, at this point, is a problem brought about by installing and removing different security packages, one of which left something behind that's causing Windows to misbehave. I know Avast free AV and AIS work correctly on Windows 8, so my suggestion would be to reinstall Windows and hope for the best.

    Thanks for posting.
I did as you told me.
After resetting in cmd I restarted. The network apps like mozilla, firefox worked great. But AVAST cannot update its virus definitions like before.
Also after again restarting the PC,all problems came up again.(Mozilla, chrome cannot find any pages and AVAST cannot connect to server.)
I also have the same problem with Aneek, but has a difference in an installation. This was happened in my case. "I already have successfully installed my avast And was able to perform well in almost 2 years. just recently after a long while, I just saw my avast appeared to be expired and needs to be updated ASAP. at thesame moment, I also have discovered that my internet browsers could no longer connect to internet even my internet explorer. until then, i couldn't be able to use my internet browsers. thanks for any help in advance.

Same advice as before. Download the avast uninstaller and then do a clean install of the new Avast Free 2014. See what happens:

avast! Uninstall Utility | Download aswClear for avast! Removal

Avast Free Antivirus 2014 - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

    Good luck.
