Wifi won't connect automatically, shows 50 sessions?

I have windows 8. I set my computer to connect to my network automatically, but I have to log in every time. That is fine, I can live with that. But let's say my network is called AARON. Well now when I connect, and hover my mouse over the connection it says AARON 1,2,3,4,5,6,7........etc. Like every day I connect it's adding another number. I'm up to 50 right now. And forgetting the network does not make this go away. If it matters, my network is "hidden"

    Thanks!

The same kind of thing has happened to me since I upgraded to Win 8. Our WiFi too is hidden. I have no trouble connecting each time. But if I check "Connect automatically", Windows says, "Cannot connect to this network"—even though it's just connected to it.

Windows is not adding numbers after our network name, though. If it were, I wouldn't try to fix it. It'd be too exciting seeing how high the numbers would go. Of course we live in the suburbs; where you live, more interesting forms of entertainment may be available.

Don't really have a fix, I never hide mine. Take a look here: Cannot auto-reconnect to WiFi network with hidden SSID

And welcome to the forum both of you!

Gee, that seems extreme, sacrificing a significant layer of security just because of a Windows annoyance.

Aaronpark, have you tried deleting your network entry from Windows 8? Here's how to do that. You could then log off/on, click "Hidden Network" in the available-network list, create a new connection, and see if the endless-number quirk has gone away.

Hiding the SSID is not a significant layer of security. It has always been a false ideology by those who believe it to be.

If you are seeing multiple sessions, then that means possible infection or Torrent/P2P that is causing Virtual sessions. Also a Virtual machine can do the same thing.

How about that—you're right. It's actually more secure in some ways not to hide it. I'm glad this came up... Thanks!
