    Restricted networking?

I can browse but many other functions seem not to be working.

I cannot activate or update windows, all security certificates read as invalid, can't upload attachments to either here or rapidshare, "windows smartscreen can't be reached right now" for everything, the add-on manager for firefox thinks I'm offline, etc. is completely unusable for me. I tried to install Zune & was told I needed to install .NET framework 3.5 but every time I've tried - whether it's the bootstrap or the full version I should be able to install even when offline - I get "windows couldn't connect to the internet to download the necessary files."

Ha! Nevermind. It was my clock. I'd set it in bios but it seems it hadn't taken the year.

Restricted users can "see" non-interactive accounts in User Accounts and Family Safety
This bug has been present in 8 and it is still there in 8.1. If the computer has non-interactive user accounts (i.e. accounts listed under "Deny logon locally" in Local Security Policy), these accounts are visible in the "Sign Out/Lock" menu of every regular interactive user on that machine...
There are days I wish I never heard of Windows. This has been a week of them. I'm glad I don't own a gun, or all I'd have turned my computer into a tiny scrapyard. To begin with, all I wanted to do was to run SFC/Scannow (inside Windows ) That didn't work. Then I tried running it at boot up. ...

Hello Usually when I visit a friend or family we use the admin prompt to ipconfig and note the gateway address. Then we use that in the address bar to get to the router. Once in, either by password and admin or the person's password I look at the passphrase or key so that I can enter that on my...
As soon as I start an application (Cadence Allegro PCB Designer 16.5 but I don't think it's relevant) my CPU usage gets to the roof and stays there long after I killed the application and I believe I every associated process. The CPU usage is so high that the battery will be drained after about 45...

Hello I am with a guest who let me use the Ethernet cable from her modem to my router then to my laptop with the second Ethernet cable. Is there someway, for a moderately skilled user, that I can enter her network and be able to move away from the Ethernet cable I am tied to? I did try to run...
Networking with Win 8 and Win XP in Network & Sharing
Hi guys. I have two computers one running Win 8 and the other with XP and want to network both. I have used an old router for this task. I have set up the two IP addresses and used the ping command. Ping responded very well on both computers. That means both computers are working OK and in...
