Just seen another thread on something similar, which has prompted this. My printer mentioned above uses wifi to connect to the house pc and laptops for sharing etc. I got so fed up of wifi switching itself off after a period of none use, I resorted to plugging in the usb. I tried reinstalling the printer, checking for latest software via the HP software that does it for you, it reports all in order.

Under usb the printer will still go 'dormant' but always comes awake when I want to print something. Under wifi, it wont.

I presume this will be a task for HP support?

Yea, something in the wireless communication isn't waking it up. Only temp fix I can think of is going to Devices and Printers and see if you can wake it up through there.

Nothing in the printer settings to leave wireless always on?

Same with ENVY 5530

I have a similar, maybe the same, problem with my ENVY 5530 printer. In my case, the problem only occurs when trying to print from my Windows 8.1 HP desktop, and only after the desktop has been in a sleep state. Otherwise the printer WiFi stays connected continuously. I re-establish the connection after sleep by turning the WiFi off at the printer and then turning it on. It seems the problem is with the desktop because when the printer shows 'Offline' to, say, MS Word, my iPad will wirelessly print to the same printer. I have fiddled with a lot of settings, etc. on the Windows 8.1 desktop, but have not solved the problem.

Another oddity about the problem is that there is an 8.1 app called 'HP AiO Printer Remote' which shows the printer as 'Ready' even when programs like Word say the printer is Offline.
