i run windows 8.1 now on a Acer Aspire M5-481T. This is a school laptop and i think it was upgraded to windows 8.1 after they had to re-image/reset it. Before the reset i had always 5-4 bars connection. Now i only have 1, with constant flickering between 1 and 5 and it even completely disconnects sometimes. Nothing is wrong with my modem, it works fine with other devices and at the same distance.

In order to keep a constant 4-5 bars connection i have to sit really close to the modem, this was not the case before the reset. Is there something wrong with windows 8.1 and can a setting be changed in comp to fix this?

yes i tried but since its 8.1, when i tried to install the 8.0 one or the windows 7 one it always said windows has determined your driver software for your device is up to date, so i couldn't install the one i wanted it stayed on the latest i am pretty sure. Is there a way to tell if it installed correctly?

Try finding driver at Acer site, they should be more up to date there.
