RDC into 8.1 PRO doesn't work although enabled

Hi there,

I have a fresh install of 8.1 PRO x64 on one of my machines and want to install and configure further via RDC, as I usually do from the comfort of my couch using a laptop running 7 x64 Enterprise.

So I'm connected and everything's up and running, yet cannot RDC from the 7 laptop into the 8.1 PRO machine. I have checked the "allow remote connections to this PC" in remote settings in PC Info. The PC is on the network because it can be discovered and shared folders can be seen. I can ping it too.

So I'm a bit out of ideas here as it is a completely fresh install with zero other software. RDC from the laptop onto other machines works perfectly. The only stubborn one is the machine running 8.1 PRO.

Thanks for your aid

Use VNC or Teamviewer. RDP has always had issues since day one. There are still security issues that have not been resolved, since XP was birthed.

Hi there,

What services would be required running ? I assume they are as it is a fresh install ?

Thank you very much for your tips. As soon as I turned off Windows Firewall, I was able to connect. So now the following question: what rule do I add/amend in the firewall to allow incoming RDC requests ?

Sorry Buddy , I generally turn off the firewall as it works wired . Haven't played with it at all.
will give it a try and let you know. By the time try adding a user in Remote desktop Users group..

You need to add Remote Desktop to ALLOW service through the firewall. From a Windows 7 computer, click Start, Click Control Panel, Click in the search field and type firewall, and then click on the "Allow a program through the windows Firewall". On the next window that opens, scroll down to "Remote Desktop" and check the box and then click OK. It will now work through the firewall.

Thx for your reply. However, oviously, I'm on a Windows 8.1 computer. Does the same procedure apply ?

Yes. Getting to the control panel is a little different, and here is how I would do it:

1. Press the Windows key + R and this will bring up the run box
2. In the run box type: control
3. Press Enter.
4. In the search field type firewall

and then follow the steps from my first post. Hope this helps.
