    Strange wireless connection

    Hi all,

Since I got my laptop a year ago I have been getting odd connectivity issues. My laptop remains connected to the internet but pages just stop loading. As soon as I click the wireless icon in the taskbar pages start loading. This is an intermittent issue but once it starts happening it happens for quite long and it gets very frustrating. Sometimes I get a yellow warning triangle next to the wireless connection icon. Now I'm pretty sure this is a problem with my wireless adaptor in my laptop. The driver software is up to date and I have rebooted my router countless times. The issue does not happen on other devices in the house connected to the net.

I'm considering asking Samsung to take it in for repair or checking, but thought I may as well ask for help on here too. Any tips would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

I doubt its a hardware issue tbh.

Have you tried altering your wireless channel on the router... a bit counter intuitive for this kind of problem but try it. Also, although you will hear that channels 3, 7 and 11 are the only non overlapping and clear channels to use, that's no good if all your neighbours are on those. Try something like channel 9.

Also, from an elevated command prompt (cmd.exe and run as admin) type,

    ipconfig /release (and press enter)

    and then,
    ipconfig /renew (and press enter)

The router channels; how would I go about changing them?

And the ipconfig command, what does that do exactly?

    Thanks!

The ip command just allocates a fresh IP address in case you have dodgy one. Nothing bad happens and its instant.

The router you will need to look up the specifics for (google its make and model and how to change the wireless channel) and how to access it. Its normally done through your browser wirelessly, you just type the routers address into your browsers top line and access the options. A minutes job. You might need a password for the router which you should have with the documentation supplied with it (or stuck on a label on the router).

Doesn't ip address change when you reboot router?

Anyway the problem is so annoying, I literally have to click the wireless connection icon in taskbar to get pages loading. It also says 'limited' next to my wireless network if that helps.

Rebooting the router almost certainly does change the IP address but doing it from within Windows while still connected maintains the physical router to ISP connection.

You need to try and determine where your problem lies. Did you change router wireless channels ? There is a free program called InSSider that will show all the WiFi activity around you. This shows my router on channel 9 which is theoretically a poor choice but it is the channel that works well for me. I had odd weird connection issues and my speed falling from around 38mbs down to 1 or 2 mbs. The problem was the WiFi channel automatically chosen by the router. I changed to manual and found 9 the best. I also got limited connectivity like yourself. At first I too tried rebooting the router and it fixed both speed and connection issues. I didn't automatically associate wifi channel with the problems I had because I could connect OK to the router at all times. But it was.

I think I got InSSider from Major Geeks,
    Download inSSIDer - MajorGeeks

Be careful what you click on.
