HP Pavillion wifi access point problems

Hello, I have a HP Pavillion x360 i3 2 in 1 laptop. I am having problems with the wifi staying connected, and when the laptop is connected to wifi the internet speeds are slow. The speeds are slow as in I cannot stream videos on youtube without constant pausing, and even downloading something as simple as google chrome takes much longer than it is supposed to. In my house there are plenty of other devices that are connected including my old laptop, which, has no problems downloading/streaming and iphones, and an ipad. All of the other devices except my new HP laptop has no problem streaming and downloading. The laptop is extremely new;less than a week old. I have tried updating the network driver, resetting the network driver, and disconnecting then reconnecting the wifi; yet the problem keeps occuring. I do have MacAfee so I guess that could pose a problem, but I am unsure. The adapter I use is a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565, with internet provided by COMCAST. It could be an adapter problem, but because of the other devices working fine I do not think that the problem is from the adapter. Also, the OS is Windows 8.1

Thank you for your time and help

Thank you, and I do not have a LAN cable, it was given away to a friend with an old router, Although i assume it would work

What driver do you have for the adapter? Also be sure all your power options do not let the adapter sleep.

And how do I check to make sure my power options do not let the adapter sleep?

And how do I check to make sure my power options do not let the adapter sleep?
  1. Go to Device Manager
  2. Right-click Wi-Fi Adapter
  3. Click Properties - to open properties window
  4. Click on Power Management tab
  5. Remove check-mark from Allow the computer... (though mine is checked)

You may also have to tweak [FONT=&amp]router/access point settings[/FONT]

Ok I clicked that box. I have noticed that the only time I seem to get great connection and speeds is late at night. Could this problem be because of my internet provider?

Should have mentioned that at first post. At times there are no many connections to the provider, speeds should be better, typical case of overselling connections that provider's bandwidth and server can't handle. Also, your bandwidth is shared with all the devices currently connected to your WiFi and modem.

Could be one of the reasons, ask your ISP for MRTG/PRTG to ascertain

I didnt think it was a bandwith problem because during peak hours the other devices, and even my old laptop are able to surf the web at fast speeds.

It is not a problem from the internet provider. I was using the university's secure wifi and I still ran into slow download speeds and wifi not staying connected for long periods of time. I think it could be a problem that this 2-in-1 laptop is fairly new and still has bugs that needs to be worked out. Is there anything else I should try or should I return this 2-in-1 and get a conventional laptop?

Could also happen if WiFi signal is bad, if many are using WiFi at some times, especially if their devices are close enough you'd get radio interference from them and with lowering of signal quality, bandwidth will drop too.

I am afraid you may have to contact IT department and verify following:

  1. Whether unlimited bandwidth is allowed - IMHO the answer [DEL]should[/DEL] would be NO
  2. Whether unrestricted access (in terms of how long you could remain connected) is allowed - IMHO the answer [DEL]should[/DEL] would be NO
