You access the router with your browser, ip address for the linksys is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 and the default user is admin and password is Admin with capitol A, you can then change it to what you want it to be by taking DHCP off auto, as for the port forwarding, do some searches on the net for some all inclusive info...and welcome to the forum!

i have tried some methods given on other websites like portforward.com but it is not working, my ip is still dynamic. I guess the problem is that I have my router connected to a modem, so it is not working. The link u send gives information about setting ip address on a single router.I m facing another problem too: when I look for my DNS server in command prompt it shows two DNS servers : 218.248.255.212 and 218.248.255.139 where as my router shows only one DNS server : 192.168.0.1 where my shows different DNS servers : 218.248.255.211 and 218.248.255.210. What to do?

From the CD that came with your router, there should be a User Manual in pdf format. If you dont have it, then download from the link below:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...-mYkfJHhN8lTlYg&bvm=bv.75097201,d.cGE&cad=rja

Open the pdf file and scroll to page 40 where you can find instruction for setting up your LAN network and you can assign the LAN static IP for each device starting with 192.168.1.2.

I don't have a linksys router. However, the setup would be the same for most routers. So here's an example using Netgear Router. The GUI interface is different but you should also have a LAN settings & Port forwarding settings in your Linksys.

EDIT: You must power cycle the LinkSys router, reboot all devices to update the DNS Cache after LAN & Port Forwarding setup.

Hope This Helps !!!

You don't need a static ip address for your router. You need a static IP address for your computer. Then you setup the port forwarding on the router to go to the ip address of your computer. Goto Linksys web site for a manual for your router and it will tell you everything you need to know. Hope this helps.
