Media players cannot connect to file share in Windows 8.1

After migrating to Windows 8.1 (fresh install), I decided to use the Microsoft Live account. I then shared my folders, as usual, so that my media players in my network are able to see them. The problem is that when I type in the credentials, they don't seem to understand the email address format of my Microsoft Live Account. Is that normal?

Can I do something in Credential Manager to fix this?

    Please help. Thanks.

Set up a Local account for sharing media.

Any other way other than creating another local account? Can you like add a windows/generic credentials in credential manager to setup an alias for the email address format of the Microsoft Live Account?

Nope. Set up a local account and use that for logging into the computer for the shares.

Gotcha. Why aren't Microsoft Live Accounts compatible with other players to authenticate?

Blame that on the third party software programmers. The Live account is intended for Roaming profile.

Yeah but the email address format of authenticating (is there a proper term for this) is used since the old versions of Windows, right?

Only used for connecting to your Live account through the web browser, or when wanting to use Microsoft's Cloud drive, which became active around the time that Vista came out.

Microsoft incorporated real time Roaming profile, when they designed Windows 8.x.x. It allows you to use the same profile on any machine you go to. Only problem is that it leaves a trace of your login on what ever computer you used.

Since you are wanting to use the computer on your own network, without the headaches. Just set up a Local account just for streaming only. Really you are starting to over think this at this point.

Thanks. Not overthinking at all, just curious on everything.

In "Local Users and Groups", isn't the value under the "Name" column the one you can use for sharing authentication also? Please check picture below.

Again, you are over thinking this. Set up a new user account, but instead of making it a Microsoft Live account, make it a Conventional Local account. Then just set up the shares inside that account, that you want to access from your media devices.
