    Having a wireless problem

I'm having wireless problem. It just won't connect to the internet and I've tried turning the airplane mode on and off but it won't work.

Try removing the wireless driver in Device manager, connect with Ethernet cable and establish connection, once you have done that try setting up wireless connection.

Yes, first step would be to connect directly to the router using one of the LAN ports, not the Internet port, and setting up the router.

You haven't given us much information. Is this a home connection? What router and what adapter in computer?

It's a home connection. It's an ATT router and I don't know what adapter is.

Again, model number of router would help. I'm assuming it is really a Gateway, those things can be finicky and some are just plain crap. If you go into Device Manager on your computer it will tell you what adapter you have.

I went into Device manager but what do I click on after that?
I'm using the ethernet right now.

The adapter is what is in your laptop or desktop, to allow you to connect with the gateway. Depending on the Gateway. You could have one that only does Wireless-G, or is capable of Wireless-N.

The SSID & Passphrase are printed on the side of the device, along with the master password. As long as the Gateway shows all Green lights on the front, it is connected to the DSLAM or VRAD. Connect an Ethernet cable to it and the computer. See if you can get to either Google.com or yahoo.com. If you can, then you know you have Internet with ATT. If not. Then your Gateway is not activated on their network.

    Seems pretty complicated.

I just plugged off the ethernet cable, and not only does it not connect to the local wireless, it doesn't show any wireless at all to connect to.

Should a different approach be used?

If you plug in with cable you are not using wireless, you are then using the LAN connection. Are you plugging the cable into the LAN port of your computer then into the Internet port of the router/Gateway? This is the best way to begin testing.

    I believe so.

The cable is connected to the only place where it fits on the laptop and is connected to the router.
