Solved DPC Latency issues

Recently been getting significant latency issues on my desktop after roughly a day/two of use (hibernating at night). This causes audio stuttering and static. Issue seems to be caused by ndis, and tcpip.

Using DPC Latency monitor I noticed it would skyrocket to red whenever the internet got a burst of use, for example refreshing a browser page, or receiving a message on skype. A la:


Spikes are page refreshes. Everything else is yellow (yellow not green as the software has issues with Win8).

Ran a LatencyMon scan with my network card disabled:


Quite the difference, stayed completely in the yellow in the DPC monitor.

Looks like tcpip and ndis are the offending drivers.

Been happening for a few weeks now. Restarting solves the problem but only for a day or two. All drivers are updated as far as I can tell.

Tried:
chkdsk r f
sfc scannow
dism scan/restore
defragment
disk cleanup
full virus scan
driver updates (as best as I can tell)
lots of other small solutions that escape memory

The DPC Latency Checker is not valid for Windows 8. They have a statement to that effect on their web site.

Try the Resplendence Latency program, which is valid.

You mean use LatencyMon? I have been. Got a few snapshots of it in my first post to illustrate the problem. I know there's issues with the latency checker but the latency problems it highlights are still perfectly valid and correlate with LatencyMon.

I mainly responded since I saw you had the invalid DPC Latency Checker displayed.

Here is what the DPC Latency checker site says about Win 8

Windows 8 Compatibility: The DPC latency utility runs on Windows 8 but does not show correct values. The output suggests that the Windows 8 kernel performs badly and introduces a constant latency of one millisecond, which is not the case in practice. DPCs in the Windows 8 kernel behave identical to Windows 7. The utility produces incorrect results because the implementation of kernel timers has changed in Windows 8, which causes a side effect with the measuring algorithm used by the utility

You need to delete that and only work with the Resplendence program. However, I've never been able to digest all the info that the Resplendence program provides.

Even though there's inconsistencies, the baseline it provides gives a more user friendly view than LatencyMon. Its easier to look past the inaccuracies it gives and just at the major spikes. In other words I'm only using it for monitoring of hard faults which I then compare time wise with LatencyMon to get greater detail (and both programs always agree with each other). Its not causing any harm and its not effecting the latency itself, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks to using it.

If you don't feel like reading the post on how to fix it, basically you need to install an older driver from this link:
Drivers & software - HP Support Center

Don't worry if your system is not an HP..it will work with any system that has the 82579LM

I just searched your mobo and found it uses Realtek 811F network controller. Whats funny is people are reportng the same issue and the driver from here solves it:

Uninstalled avast, issue disappeared. Reinstalled with just the free version, nothing bad yet. Think some of the pro features might've screwed me over.
