Win 8.1 desktop computer has airplane mode on and grayed out.
There is no control switch on the PC or the wireless card.
I have tried everything I see on line and nothing works.
How do I shut off airplane mode?

thanks,
jp

Is the Wireless adapter disabled or enabled in Device Manager? That's usually what affects making settings changes.

It is enabled. I have disabled/re-enabled, removed, rediscovered, uninstalled, removed from programs, reinstalled and none of these had any affect. Airplane mode was still on when there was no device in the computer or in programs.

Also, when I do PC Settings, Network, Airplane Mode: the only thing listed in the right pane is the airplane mode switch grayed out in the on position; nothing listed below that even though I am connected to my wireless network and there are several available.

this thread is closed.
Even though the airplane mode still shows on and grayed out; I have internet connectivity.
After all that I went through, I believe it was Norton 360hat caused the problem. I uninstalled it and all worked again.
