Intermittent internet connectivity, varying error messages

Hey all. I've browsed a number of prior threads with similar issues seeking out a resolution, and have had no luck, so I decided it was time to go direct.

For about a week now, my computer has had intermittent internet access. It'll work anywhere from about 10 seconds to 45 minutes or so before cutting out. When it disconnects, it usually corrects itself within the next minute or so, or disconnecting/reconnecting to the network, running the troubleshooter, or turning on/off wifi will correct the issue slightly quicker.

When running the troubleshooter, I've seen about every error it has. Usually "Default gateway is unavailable." Sometimes an IP error, sometimes "network cable is unplugged," sometimes it'll tell me I have a router or modem error, or to contact my ISP. It varies. I've seen up to 3 errors at once, and then the next time the Troubleshooter runs it'll give me another entirely. The network itself is fine. A number of other devices function consistently throughout the day as my PC has issues. This PC worked on this current network for about 3 weeks prior to failing.

Normally, it thinks it's connected. Sometimes it shows the yellow symbol in the bar and says no internet access. Usually depends on how long it cuts out for.

On an HP Touchscreen laptop
AMD A10-5745M APU processor
Windows 8.1, 64 bit
Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter
Security on the wireless network is WPA2-Personal with AES encryption

To date, off the top of my head, I've checked for viruses (none), refreshed the PC (not a full restore, but the one that does not remove files, just programs and settings), done a couple things in command prompt, and updated the driver. No luck. No idea where to proceed from here. I wasn't quite sure what info to provide or what questions to ask, so if there's anything else needed, please let me know.

_Did you try a DNS Flush by trying these command in cmd: ipconfig /flushdns
_Have you tried to reset the winsock catalog in cmd: netsh winsock reset
_Did check for your driver latest updates by going to this website:Atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Driver Lite | HP® Support

I just joined the forums to ask about this exact problem, except mine normally lasts a bit longer before disconnecting. and im using an ethernet cable rather than wireless

Double checked the driver first, and that changed nothing.

Then ran the two commands, and that had an odd result. I think it still does what it did, alternating between connected and not, but now, when it is functioning, it only works for a handful of websites and programs. Bittorrent has no connection issues, I can access espn.com, timewarnercable.com, and that's it from what I've tried. Other programs that require an internet connection wont work. Facebook, google, just about any other websites say server not found. This site was working initially, for about ten minutes, but now it shows the same error, so I've moved to my phone. No idea what would cause that.

Did you reboot after doing the two commands if not do them again (in order) then reboot (not shutdown then power on) and see if that helps.

I had rebooted the first time, yes. Command prompt said to. Went ahead and tried again today anyways, and no effect. It's back to square one at this point, actually. Sometimes can't load anything at all, sometimes everything works. Just alternates between the two. Right now, it's working, after about 30 minutes of not working, and I assume it will fail again here shortly.

Did you check your router for issues? A faulty router can show similar problems. Try connecting with an ethernet cable and rebooting the router. If still the issue persists, check your laptop wifi adapter and ethernet adapter with another router or network. If it is working fine, then the issue is definitely with the router. Try a firmware update or contact service center. Any persisting DNS issues can be easily solved bycontacting internet service provider’s customer service.
