Cannot Copy Folder Contents to Network Drive

I found that my two Windows 8.1 laptops will not copy the entire contents of any folder to my Iomega network drive. Only the folder alone is copied and none of the sub-folders or individual files. I can copy individual files separately, but not the whole folder sub-folder, and files together. I have no problem doing this with my Windows 7 desktop PCs. My network drive is connected directly to my Apple Airport Base Station router. Any way to fix this so the copying behavior is like my Windows 7 PCs?

First off, what iOmega NAS are you using. There are a lot of different models. I have the Lenovo ix2-4, or iOmega ix2-4, before Lenovo bought out that line. I have never had issues with the ix2-4, when moving files over to it, from computers on my network.

I am going to be pretty blunt on this. That unit is only good for storage from one computer, not really meant for Network storage. The software for that series was pretty bad to begin with.

Majority of the issues have to do with Router that you are connecting the unit to. The other is that the software on that unit was written pretty sloppy by iOmega's software writers to begin with.

That is the reason I went with the Lenovo ix2-4. I needed something that could handle the load I was putting into it. With the amount of files we were storing on it when my son lived here.

That unit you have, will work for light duty work at most. I really do not consider it a NAS though. Maybe a pocket drive at that.

As long as you are just setting up shares on the unit, and then signing into the folder as a Network share. It should work. I would forgive even using the third party software that can be used as a file manager. Again, that is one of the short comings that iOmega came up with, that caused them to sell out their NAS line to Lenovo.

Just go with regular Windows file network shares, do not use the third party storage software, do not use any third party Internet security/firewall software. It should work. Now keep in mind that if a directory does become over 50gb. It will cause Windows 8.x.x to stall, while trying to create the folder directory structure for you to see in the Explorer window.

That unit would have no effect on just moving files or folders between computers on the network. They would never pass through that unit. Only if you are pulling them from the NAS. Then you would run into issues, where the computer you are using to copy over to the other has to temporarily store the file in the Temp file location, then remove it after it copies from the NAS to the other computer.

Also you have to take into consideration if you are using wifi, and whether it is Wireless-g or Wireless-n for the computers connecting to the router.
