Remove computer from Windows 8.1 PC workgroup

I have a Windows 8 laptop that I am sharing files on with an iMac computer running Maverick OS 10.9.4. The problem I am having is that I have two iMac computers with the same name, but different passwords....consequently, I can only network to one of them( I found this out too late). Of course I connected to the wrong one to begin with and now I need to know how to remove that one from the Windows 8.1 PC workgroup so I can network the right one. Any ideas??

Try to clear the DNS Cache from the router by disconnect the power cord and leave it out for 5-10' and from the Windows 8.1, open the Admin command prompt and type: ipconfig /flushdns.

BTW, you should not have 2 PC's with the same name

Yes, I know I should not have two computers with the same name, but that happened because the first one (the one I want to connect with was a hand me down iMac to my wife who is into genealogy and has files she wants to share between her new Windows 8.1 laptop and her old iMac)......However, I followed your solution to the letter and the Windows machine returned the message "Cache successfully flushed", but both iMac computers are still in the workgroup and I still can only connect to the one I want to remove but not the wife's........

Is there another way to simply remove my iMac from the workgroup on the Windows 8.1 PC which would leave only my wife's iMac and allow me to connect to it without going through the lengthy process of changing her iMac's computer name????

    Please advise......

    Thanks for your time......

Wouldn't the simplest solution would be to rename one of the MACS, then again I don't deal with MAC and I don't know how hard it is to change the name of a MAC computer.

Also, if you need to connect to one or the other, you could turn one of them off while you do your thing with the other. Hope this helps.

Tried turning off the first iMac as suggested. Then tried connecting to the wife's iMac but windows still would not allow me to connect to her iMac. Surely there is some easy way to do this without going through the lengthy process of renaming the second iMac, which by the way, creates a new user name and ID and as such, does not bring along with it everything that was in the original user id that was changed therefore making it an undesirable and lengthy process......

    Thanks for the suggestions

Same as above, I don't deal with MAC. However, in addition to what I suggested above, you also need to flush DNS from both MAC machines. Google search for the way to flush DNS in MAC:
How to Flush the DNS Cache on Your Mac - Apple.Answers.com

FYI, renaming the Computer Name/ID should not effect the user credential in the machine so I don't understand why you need to re-create the user/password. Having 2 computers with the same name is like you have 2 houses with the same address.

EDIT: Since your MAC is registered by the router DNS, you'd have to start the procedure from my previous post while keeping your MAC off and your Wife's on.

While I appreciate your very welcome suggestions, I am not so sure I have the necessary computer savvy to implement your last solution. I am afraid if I mess with the terminal on my iMac machines I will screw them up beyond repair......so I don't feel comfortable doing this operation.........I was hoping that there would be some simple solution such as removing one of them from the PC.
Right now we can share files between all three computers with the only exception being the PC will not connect to my wife's iMac.......but her iMac will connect with her PC........which seems odd to me......and every time we try to connect to her iMac from her PC we get the message "you do not have permission to connect to Nancy's iMac ... bad stub" Does that tell you anything????

Have you tried checking the Apple Support forums. This is more of a Samba issue with Mac OS, vs. Windows.

Yes, but all I get from them is that it is a Windows 8.1 issue because both of the iMacs can connect to and access the PC files but the PC will only connect to one iMac but not the other one.........all I get from the Apple forums is that I need to rename the second iMac and that involves a rather lengthy process, and may not work then.......on the older Windows machines I have used in the past, I could always just remove the offending workgroup computer and then add it back to the workgroup and that would usually resolve any problems.......but I cannot find a way to do this on Windows 8.1.........Hopefully someone out there know how to successfully do this......

    Thanks for your suggestion.
