Living out in the sticks I had to get Satellite Internet, and I have come up with a strange problem. When I connect my Modem directly to the Computer I get an error 'No Valid IP' and hence no internet. When I plug the cable into a TP Link router on the wireless I get a connection BUT on the cable ethernet I get the same error message, No Valid IP.' While this is OK for some things, others it is not. Can anyone help please?

Hi cdmjjp, I also have satellite internet but rarely direct connect to the modem, I use a wireless router which also has LAN ports.

The modem will act as the DHCP server when direct connected. One thing to check in your Advanced Settings for the LAN card is make sure Network Address is blank.

Edit: Also what is the internal IP address of your modem? Mine is 192.168.0.1 and you have to make sure none of the settings on your computer or any router is also using this address.

Sounds maybe like a bad adapter or bad cable.
