Can I force Win 8 to scan for available networks?

I am using the N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router DGND3700v2 This has 2 channels 2.5ghz and 5ghz .

On my main desktop windows 8 has sucessfully found and connected wirelessly to the 2.5ghz connection. However, when I want to do video streaming the 5ghz connection would be better.

On my other devices I can search / scan for all available connections and I can see both the 2.5 and the 5 connections. For example, my laptop running windows 7 can see both connection and I can choose which one i want to connect too.

However, Windows 8 seems to have locked into the 2.5ghz connection and cannot see the 5ghz connection . Is there a way to force Windows 8 to scan again so it can see the 5ghz connection ?

Thank in advice

B

In the Device Manager, under Network heading you should have that adapter listed.

Than you don't have a 5 GHz WiFi device, they are like one channel radio, you can listen to only one station, the one that works in 2.4 GHz range, You can't listen to FM radio station with am AM only radio.

Yeah, higher frequency has larger bandwith and speed but is still not de facto standard. You could always ad a card or USB receiver for that frequency.

No problem, I'm in almost same boat, I have WiFi internet ISP at 5GHz but router is only with 2.4 so I keep stationary computers connected with wires and use WiFi just for laptop and phones. Using wired mode is faster even than 5GHz WiFi.

I love my 5GHz for recording live TV with a SiliconDust box. Can record two channels at the same time, no problem.
