    PC just for remote desktop

    Hey guys,

I've been looking for a PC that I can use to simply connect to another computer on the LAN with remote desktop. Nothing else at all, just remote desktop.

I found this one, and I was wondering if it would be any good: HP 110-101 Desktop PC and 20? Monitor Bundle | Officeworks

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

The specs should work. Will you be accessing Apps/Programs/Databases from that remote computer?

Will this be utilized for personal or business use? I see that the O/S(Windows 8.1) is more like for personal, if bloatware is not an issue for you that should work fine. I personally prefer a business version, there are great features that are added including security.

    Hope this helps.

There are no other apps or programs that will be running on this PC. It will be utilized for business use, and I'll probably block all incoming and outgoing traffic to and from the outside network through Windows Firewall. I'll probably also end up uninstalling all the bloatware, and going into Task Manager to disable the startup applications. This computer will be used for nothing but Remote Desktop.

That machine will work fine for desktop use, and Internet use. It is really the Internet Connection on both ends that matters.

Your router will work fine if it is a NAT router, or has a built in Firewall. No need to use the Windows Firewall. Blocking all incoming and outgoing connections through the firewall, would actually disable you from being able to do anything that requires accessing the Internet.

You really would be better to go with a Laptop vs. Desktop. You can use a keyboard & mouse & monitor when you are at your desk. Then take it with you. Harder to do that with a desktop.

Also you do not use Task Manager to disable startup applications. As for Bloatware, machines come with very little pre-installed stuff now days. Majority are short cuts, along with pre-installed Windows Office for students & home maybe, and a A/V Firewall Suite. You can if you want a machine with a clean OS. Purchase from the business side of the OEM or a local computer shop. I would stick with Windows 7 Pro x64 over Windows 8.
