Scanned documents not showing up on "workstations"

I use windows 8.1 on a desktop for a server in our small office. Server + 5 workstations. I was using an old XP machine to scan documents in. I moved the scanner to the Windows 8.1 server. The XP machine scanned them and sent them to a location on the server and from there anyone could get to the document.
Now, if I scan from the server to the same location it will not show on the workstations in Windows Explorer (or Thunderbird if emailing). It's there and all the workstations have permission to access the folder.
If I am on the Win 8 machine and copy the file to another location and then back to the scan docs location, no problem it shows.
If I copy a doc from a workstation to the Server. No problem it shows.
I suspect some type of permissions issue but am unable to figure out how to resolve it.

    Thanks

    Welcome to Seven Forums,

Have you tried creating a mapped network drive shortcut on the computer's desktop to access the shared scanned folder?

I have mapped drives on all the "workstations" It works fine. Here is what I have determined. For some reason when I scan logged into the server the files permissions do not follow the folders permission like when I scan from another computer and send it to the server. I can go in and manually change the files permissions and it will show up. Of course that is not practical for every file we scan.

What's the Operating System of your Server?

Lets back up a few. What is the manufacturer & model of the "Scanner" that you are using? Is there software that has to be installed to scan from the scanner mfg? Also are you running any type of Internet security software or firewall software on the computers?

What is the mfg & model of your router that you are using in this office?

It's a Xerox Documate. I'll have to get the model number when I get to the office. The router is Cisco and again I will have to get the model number at the office.
I want to be clear. I have the scanner hooked directly to the server. It scans the image fine. The image is stored on the server fine. if I manually change the permissions on the file the workstations can see it fine.
If I change the server to a workstation it scans the image and it is stored on the server fine and everyone can see it.
I am just not sure why the file I scan from the server doesn't inherit the "everyone" access property of the folder it's dropped in.

I would probably contact Xerox about this, or even look on their site for info if others are having problems with this piece of gear and Windows 8.x.x. Some equipment if older, does not play nice with later Os's.

It's a Documate 510. $150 scanner. It doesn't come with support. It's not a problem with the scanner, it's a problem with windows assigning permissions to a file.
