wifi connects but say limited connection not ISP issue

i have a lenovo idea pad that will connect to wifi but says limited connection. i can use the iternet via ethernet cable with no issues. My ISP is comcast and i have one of their modems that came with wifi im guessing it doubles as a router seeing i direct connect to it with my laptop. however my wifi works for my xbox one, a nexus 7 tablet a xbox 360 ,a printer and two smartphones with no issues what so ever. they are not all on at once so max connections shouldnt be a issue. ive spent hours on the phone with comcast and they insist its the laptop and not the wifi any ideas on how to go about fixing the issue. ive checked the drivers and their up to date then uninstalled and reinstalled still no luck. i use firefox for browsing and AVG for antivirus

Welcome to Windows Eight Forums, reliablefever.

Is this using the AVG firewall as well? It could be blocking access. If so, read the help files on how to allow.

If the modem does double as a wifi router there has to be some kind of management GUI you can get into with the right IP address and password. I would start there, may be some setting that is causing problems. Do you know the IP address being assigned to the laptop?

Is this what you have? About the Wireless Gateways

Your laptop should not be 10.0.0.1 that is the router/gateway address. You need to reset the IP stack on the laptop. You may also try to connect with a cable until you get things sorted out.

Have you followed the steps here: About the Wireless Gateways

Again, connect with a cable as outlined there and see if it works and you can access the user interface.

Have you tried disabling the 802.11n mode (not on the router but on your pad's wifi card) ? I know some Ideapad had this recurrent problem with it
You can access it via device manager / select your wifi card / properties. The option to disable n mode might be there.

Good advice. These new Comcast gateways seem to be a pain in the butt.

Are you truly a one eye person? Had to ask as a person who lost one. Still looking for it. :)

Well, not much help but at least we know it is strictly a wireless problem and probably none of the generic network settings on the laptop. I would experiment with every wireless setting there is on that gateway. I can't believe Comcast won't or can't provide some help with proper settings.

Wish I could more help but hard to do over the internet, not sitting in front of the equipment.
