    Well, here is the user guide:

    Just a standard cable modem from what I see. Should not be any built-in key or password. That is all between your computer and router. I'm at a loss here. I'll let somebody else jump in, maybe they'll have some ideas. Unless something about 8 it doesn't like. it is an older modem from what I can tell.

    that is only a modem, has no wireless output. I admit I am kind of confused as well. Why would the modem have a key.For the modem to work though you do have to get it activated via the cable provider.I assume though you have done that.

    She has been using it for a long time so I guess she got it activated or she would not have internet?
    Having a pin is confusing. It is 500**-***-**.

    The asterisks represent letters and numbers which I did not include for security purposes.

    I wonder what purpose the pin serves if not to reveal the key?

    Anyway, as I said we can leave it as is as i have internet thanks to my router.
    I tried without the router and even after power cycling got no internet with out the router i brought.

    I guess this an unsolvable issue.
