If for some reason it doesn't install well, check the .inf for your hardware id to be present. If it is not, try with one of the 8191 downloads.
Thanks. I checked and mine is in there. So im not sure what the problem is. Ill have to hold out for a while. At least it works, itd just be nice if I didnt have to run the troubleshooter to get it working out of standby. Perhaps Ill just skip standby from now on since the computer boots at a decent speed.

Any idea how to manually reset the adapter without waiting for troubleshooter to detect problems?

Yes, you can use Device Manager to disable then re-enable the driver.

Maybe we can figure out how to really fix it though. What does the troubleshooter say the problem is while it fixes it?

In services.msc, you can try disabling the DNS Client service, then rebooting. I do this on all my installs anyhow. If it works for you, then I can also show you how to set the fastest DNS server to use for your network.

It says something like "Problem with network adapter" and "Problem with network adapter driver".

I hear that. If you click on advanced, or something else during the process near the end (I forget) - it tells you the changes it made. If I knew what they were, I might have some suggestions to set it so that the changes can be be made permanently.

Reset the network stack. Run each command one at a time, pressing Enter after each, in an elevated command prompt (Admin).

    netsh winsock reset

    netsh interface ipv4 reset

    Restart after.

If you have any 3rd party security tools installed like a firewall or antivirus, that can cause the issue.

Problem is already solved by just restarting, so there is no need for additional commands before restart. Unless those commands could reset it without restarting.

Disabling/enabling with device manager does not help.

I haven't needed this in a long time, or helped on forums in quite a while either until recently again. Now that I think about it, this is probably the correct way to reset the network ip stack in Windows Vista and onward, so this is how you should do:
