I use my usb modem in the TP LINK TL MR3O4O router to connect to the internet. But some windows apps(including ebay app) and some other games don't work when I use the router to connect to the internet. The app/game would simply minimise to the taskbar. Is it because the router is filtering or something like that?

...sounds more like your security program or firewall in Windows is blocking...

I have checked that. Those apps are allowed in windows firewall. One more thing, everything works fine if i connect the modem directly to the laptop.

are you able to get into the settings of the 'router' when it is connected to the modem?

Do I also assume that you are using this machine now and posting here over a wireless connection setup in that router?

does your network show in Network and Sharing Center, as a private or public network? It seems this portable router has three settings, 3G/4G, AP, and WISP client, so you must be in AP mode and there is no filtering set up in the router by default, it is running as an access point only. So this goes back to your security settings on the laptop, or problems in your permissions...

The router has four modes - 3G/4G Router Mode,Wireless Router Mode,Standard AP Mode,WISP Client Router Mode and I am in 3G/4G Mode. If this has to do something with security settings on the laptop, or problems in permissions why do "some" apps and and games flawlessly?

...the router would not selectively block some apps and not others... :geek:

I would think about changing the DNS server in the routers settings. Try using Googles DNS servers at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

TP link and Windows 8 simply do not work well together. It's not a Windows problem, it's a TP link router problem which has come up many times in the past. I suspect the problem will continue until TP link fixes the DNS acquisition problem with Windows 8 .

Call your ISP and request another router.
