Homegroup is not getting created in my win 8.1 pro sys.

    Dear All,
I am unable to create any Home Group as in my PC with win 8.1 pro, I get message that " To create or join a Home group your PC's network location must be set to Private". This I am unable to set as when i tried by going to pc setting-- network-- connection-- wifi connected, there I do not see option of "Find devices and content" to put it on. I do not know how to change PC network location. pl help me on this issue.

    Hello RBV,

Check to see if you may be able to set your network to private using Option 2, 3, or 4 in the tutorial below instead.

Using option #4 in the link that Brink has provided is the best method for fixing this problem.

Windows will see certain types networks and set them to public by default but this auto setting can be over ridden by going into the local security policy and change the settings per option #4.

Status of my PC network says " you are currently not connected to any networks". Even though I am connected to internet and doing all my work. I can not create any network or Home Group. Secondly in option 4 "Set Network to be Private or Public in Local Security Policy option" option 2, under (network list manager policy) I do not see 4th option i.e. network(name of my network) only first 3 options are available.
    what to do?

    RBV,

Are you able to use Option 2 or 3 instead?

I've seen this problem before. Windows just thinks you aren't connected so it won't allow the Homegroup connection.

Have you tried to reinstall the driver for this connection through device manager as this usually corrects the problem.

If the above doesn't help, then see if restarting the PC may. Sometimes that will toggle the network status to show properly again.

If not, then you may need to delete the network connection and create it again.
