    WiFi issue

    Dear All,
    surprised,
My windows update working ok after windows repair.
but store App gave error code 0x80072efd. Then I contacted MS Support.
The Lady was very much helpful,(phone no. 1800111100) she called me up 3 times in two days and also with remote assistance she tried her best.
Lastly she requested me to switch over to USB NET dongle in place of wifi.
    "Great". it works perfectly.
So its network problem. with wifi router. it required to be upgraded or to be compatible with win8.1
I request you all to first check yr system with other internet option(preferably USB dongle).
hope to resolve my wifi router setting and other issue.
any one know about it. pl help.
my wifi router is TP-LINK TL WR 740 VER.4.
I have already tried by upgrading the same with online upgrading driver with the process given by TP LINK.
I might have to change the router if it does not solve.
    thanks all

Common sense tells me it's not a problem with the router, its an issue with the WIFI adapter in your PC. If it was a problem with the router the other WIFI dongle wouldn't have worked? It's the first I've ever heard of a router not being compatible with an OS. It's standard networking protocols between the Router and your WIFI card so I'm doubtful its the router. In any case it will be a firmware update for that not a driver update. I'm no networking expert so I'll leave any further comments to those that know all the ins and outs.

If only it was that simple alphanumeric. I've seen so many compatibility problem with TP link I've lost count.

Without system specs there is no way to confirm anything.

    Dear alphanumeric & chev65

pl correct yr self as I have never said other wi-fi router, I said USB Dongle which goes in PC's USB port directly, further to that I checked with existing router Specs. it does say compatible issues and spell out for which system it work with. then I talk to TP-LINK support they confirm that it should work with win 8.1(with firmware updating), but by chance my router could be faulty, they have offered to test the same and replace it. You are right on one account that it should be firmware not the driver(I am sorry for that) keep it up with this kind of debate, which will lead to some positive result.
    thanks

I never said anything about a second router? You said "USB NET Dongle" which I took to mean a second wireless adapter. Now it looks like its actually "a USB cable from the PC to the router". A wired connection. That changes what I was thinking as that's a totally different connection. That still doesn't nail down whether its the WIFI card in the PC or a Router issue. It actually makes me suspect the WIFI card as the issue even more.

No debate about it, it's like I already said, there are compatibility problems between Windows 8 and TP-link hardware due to the security changes with DNS but in most cases it can be fixed with a firmware update. Hope for the best out come here.
