Just Lost Internet Connection after upgrading to 8.1 !

What PITA if I ever saw one!

I just got done upgrading my wife's newer desktop PC that had Windows 8 on it. Did the simple (but LONG) upgrade to 8.1.

Now this PC can NOT access the internet. In Network settings, it's showing the Network Adapter and Access point have a strong signal off my Wi-Fi router, but when I open a Browser or Email NOTHING !!

I've checked Firewall settings etc.... to no avail.

Also, this PC is showing a DIFFERENT access point than my other devices that connect through my Wireless router.

What do I need to do to get this thing working correctly ?

    TIA !

Make sure that you do not have the Wifi set for hidden on the Router or Access Point.

Nope, it's not. ALL my other wireless devices see my router and work great.

Now, I did just check my wife's Outlook Email and it's working fine, but the Browser's (IE, Chrome and Firefox) all will NOT access the internet. ??

    Firewall issue perhaps ????

I'd start by making sure the newest adapter drivers are installed. What PC model and what adapter? Also make sure auto connect is enabled. Do you use the desktop UI? What does the tray icon show? What happens when you click on it?

This could be a few different problems.

I would start by resetting winsock and the TCP/ip stack by pasting each command one at a time into an elevated command prompt then hit enter after each one. Reboot after running the commands then check to see if the browsers can connect or not.

    Code:
    netsh winsock reset catalog
    (reset winsock entries)
    Code:
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
    (reset TCP/IP stack)

    is a genius !

This FIXED my wife's PC's problem ! My wife said to Thank you immensely and send you a pack of Twinkies ! LOL!

I am very curious as to HOW the upgrade to 8.1 caused this issue in the first place. Why doesn't Bill Gates and Company know these issues BEFORE releasing the Upgrades ?

BTW Chev65, I used to own a sweet old 65 GMC Stepside 4x4. Very cool old truck it was! I have a couple real cool stories about it.....not sure where to post them.

I figured that would do the trick.

The network stack gets hosed up sometimes when performing upgrades. It's been going on since the Vista days. I'm glad the problems is fixed.

I've been restoring my 65' Chevelle for a long time, might even get it done some day.

    Please mark as solved.
