Alien wireless router in File Explorer-Network

In File Explorer-Network I sometimes see a router that is not mine. It is the TL-WDR3600.
It shows no IP-address, and it is apparently not on my network (Sunshine1).
I sometimes see a cell phone that is not mine either.
I have MAC filtering in my wireless router, and that MAC-address is not included.

Any idea what is going on here?

First off stop using MAC filtering. It does nothing. It is a false sense of security. As for the TP-Link router. You do not have a SamKnow's "Whitebox" on your network per chance? The TL-WDR3600 is the newer version of "Whitebox" that Sam Knows is using to monitor network connections.

Again, do you have a SamKnows device on your network? If not, then do not worry. Windows 8.1 may be mis-reading your Router/Gateway, or some other network device. It would not surprise me, since you are using a TP-Link Router/Gateway on your network. As long as no one has connected a rogue router to your network. Just mark it up to Windows 8.1.x misunderstanding network devices, and move on to something else.

This problem came around with an update with Windows 7 SP1. It has to do with SMB/CFS. Usually seen when some sort of MAC filtering or Static IP addressing is being used on the network.

    Hi again

    No SamKnows device.
The TP-Link router is the alien device.
Let's hope that MS will solve this problem in a near future.

MS will not solve the problem. It has been around since Windows 7 SP1. If you right click on that device. It should give you a MAC ID. Use that to see if it matches any of the MAC ID's that your router uses. Most use two different MAC ID's. One for the wired router, one for the Wireless. TP-Link does some odd things with their router software. That other manufacturers do not. A lot has to do with UPnP. If you were to turn UPnP off in services. I bet that device would disappear.

If you open a command window and do "netsh wlan show all". It will show all available Wireless A/P's that your computer would see.

The other could be as I stated before. The OS is misreading the MAC ID. It could be another device on your network. But the OS is seeing it as another router.
