Printer sharing: can not find printer

    Hi there everyone!

Windows 8 machine sharing printer with 8 and 7 machine.

Under Advanced sharing settins, I've enabled Network sharing in private, public/guest and all networks and disabled password protected sharing. Under printer properties, I have selected to share the printer under the share tab.

On the other machines, nothing shows up. On win 7, I chose to find the printer on the network and when I click the printer's host, I'm prompted for a network username & pass. This is in spite of the fact that I chose to disable password protected sharing is disabled under Advanced sharing settings.

Could someone help me get this figured out? I'd love to have the crew be able to use the printer.

    Thanks for your time!

It helps to know the manufacturer and model of the printer. For sharing the printer. You need to go into the Printer properties and select that the printer is shared. Then any computer on the network should see it. As long as the computer that it is physically connected to with a USB cord, is turned on.

You should not need to enter any username or password to connect to a printer. If you have to. Something is screwed up or the Internet Security software you are using is taking over.

I would suggest using a WIFI or Ethernet capable printer. Versus one that requires the computer it is connected to. To be on at all times.

Thanks very much for the reply,

As for using another printer, I'm pretty sure we're going to stick with the one we have, since we paid for it already

    Hewlett Packard Officejet 4620

Prints just fine from the computer that it's connected to.

We do not use internet security software.

Rather than try to list the absurd number of options for sharing, I figured I'd post shots of the various settings:

I would be happy to share any other information if needed.

I am not even going to bother clicking on your site-shared links. You have a Wireless Printer. It does not need to be physically connected to any computer with a USB cable to work. You just need to tell the printer which SSID is your Wireless Gateway/Router A/P. Along with entering the Passphrase.

Then you just go into each computer and load the software at Software & driver downloads HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer | HP® Support on each computer. During the setup it will ask if the printer is already setup on the Wireless Network. You click yes and then it will search for the printer on the network. Once found on the network. It will finish the setup and connect to the printer.

After all said and done. You just turn on the printer as needed, if not used all of the time. Then once turned on and goes through its self check. Your computer will see it as an active printer and allow you to print to, or scan from the printer.

I'm not even going to bother installing the suggested bloatware on every computer in the house.

All joking aside, I'm gonna go ahead and try to find someone willing to help me get it running in the current configuration, since there's no reason it shouldn't work this way.

Thanks very much for your time!

It is not bloatware. The HP software is required in order for you to have full use of the printer. Otherwise all you have is a doorstop.

I gave you the instructions on how to get your printer to work. It is the same thing that HP Support will tell you. Same thing that some local Computer guy/gal will tell you.
