rambomhtri, you can run into where some devices will work with a router with no issues. Others will not. that is why it is always suggested to try a reboot. Also if you have been messing with different drivers. Instead of sticking with the ones that Lenovo has for your machine. There-in also lies a second issue.

Already tried out the original drivers, and also tried out the official driver for my laptop at Lenovo.com. Nothing. The thing is that I think this problem came with the new modem, because every device, including my Y510P, worked great from anywhere with my old white modem. So this is even more crazy.

I have the driver 17.0.2.5, which is the last one. Lenovo offers the 16.1.5.6 (if I'm not wrong). Everything went fine with my old white modem, but now with the new one I got this problem, and it's only between the Y510p and the new modem, cause the rest of the devices work fine, as they did w/ the white one.

Doubtful that it is with the new gateway. If there is any ISP software that you have loaded on the laptop. Remove said software. Also as long as you can access the gateway with another device. Check to make sure that the MAC of the Lenovo is not somehow associated with a different IP.

You should be able to do a IP Table Flush on the Gateway. Do us a favor and get the model of the devices the ISP connected to the Fiber. One of them is acting as an Access Point. The other is acting as a iNID. Also what ISP is this?

I am beginning to think that if one of them is just a router or Access Point. See if you can just use your own Router or Access Point. Vs. the ISP leased equipment. Do you also have tv service through this ISP?

If we start to work backwards, not forwards, it is just figuring out why the A/P is restricting the one computer from not being able to access the network.

Also could be just as simple as flushing the DNS and repairing the Winsock. If you have any kind of Internet Security software on the Windows 8 computer. I would go even as far as removing the security software to eliminate that out of the mix.

You are doing everything through the desktop, not through the Metro start screen correct? Also is there any other equipment on the network between the problematic computer and the ISP supplied equipment?

The other thing you could try is to download an Xubuntu Live DVD for Xubuntu 14.04 LTS and see if you can connect fine using that. If you can. Then we can eliminate a bad Wifi mini-card.

I CAN access to this network with the Y510P, but only via Ethernet cable or via WIFI IF I'm in the same room. When I connect the Y510 to the modem, and I am in the same room, it works great. But when I move to other room, connection is lost. If I try to connect, it takes a while, and finally it says can't connect to this network. If I get back to the same room and try to connect, it instantly gets connected, as it should be.

If you are losing the connection between rooms. Then that means that the signal from the Access Point is not strong enough. Can you adjust the power on the Access Point, along with changing the channels to 1 & 5 for Wireless-N, along with placing on 40mhz.

Building makeup has a lot to do with this kind of problem. Also placement of the Access point is the other part. Placing the A/P up higher, instead of placing on a floor or burying into the back of a desk will not help. Try placing the A/P up on a shelf as high as you can and see if that improves the signal.

You can use inSSIDer to check for interference around you from other A/P's, along with signal quality for the A/P.

Wow, thanks for helping, but you should read what I write. I've said several times that ALL my other devices, like 2 laptops and a mobile phone CAN CONNECT perfectly from the OPPOSITE room, far far away. And the Lenovo CAN'T connect to it if I move to the next room. So there's an issue with my laptop, it's not a poor signal because of my modem. It's like my Lenovo is only capable of connect to a very close hotspot.

Every device is different as we have stated in various threads. Just because one device does not connect as well as others. Does not mean that there is a problem there. Just means that some devices are more sensitive in signal quality.

I would be contacting Lenovo about this issue. Not try and start an argument about something that we have no control over.

There are a fair few people having this exact problem for a while now, see the Intel site, liked how 1 person ended up using asus drivers.

    Lol.

I'm gonna ask there. Broe23, this is not a "this laptop can connect from 63m, and that one from 70m away" problem. This is that my lenovo can't connect to my modem if I'm not in the same small room. And I have also said several times that BEFORE they changed my modem, my lenovo could connect from anywhere. It's kind of weird.

The 7260 Wireless-N chipset is obsolete. It has had issues since day one. You can get the 7260 Dual-Band Wireless-ac mini-card PCIe for $30 at cdw.com. I have two Toshiba C850d's running the newer 7260 mini-card with no issues. One being this one that I am running Xubuntu on. The other is my son's laptop that is running 8.1.1.

His unit is using the Intel Proset tools. He has had no issues using his laptop anywhere that he goes. Before when it had the Realtek mini-card and a single antenna. He was having the same kind of issues as you are.

Really it is all trial and error to pin point. Since you have that older chipset in your laptop. It makes it a good candidate for the newer one.
