Windows 8.1 cannot see all devices on my network

Seems to me that you also said the Win7 machine can't even see the Win8/2 machine so that makes it part of the problem.

Honestly machines not seeing each other isn't typically a problem on properly configured networks.

I'd need to know the exact model modem and router being used here.

    Hi again
My operation got postponed so I am back at home.

The router is a Netgear WNDR3700v3
I have an Ethernet outlet in my condo so I don't know about any modem.

The problem isn't really big any more. Presently with my new NAS (ASUSTOR AS-202T) in place the only problem is that the NAS doesn't show in File Explorer-Network on my Zenbook. I can, however, map the NAS's shares in File Explorer.
Strangely enough the router doesn't show the NAS's device name.

If you have any more ideas, I'll try whatever you come up with.
If not, I can live with the present situation.

    Regards
    Flemming

    Problem solved

    I found this link: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357/en-us
I used the "Fix it" button, and the problem was solved.
    I immediately got another problem:
In LAN settings "Use proxy server for your LAN" kept being checked. My browser kept giving me error messages.
I used Spyhunter to clean my machine. That solved the latter problem.
I suggest that users who cannot see their NASes and other stuff as computers use the manual way of cleaning the IP stack as also suggested in https://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357/en-us.
Also, if you cannot see your NAS as computer, you can normally map it as a network drive in File Explorer. You get this option when This PC is selected in File Explorer. Maybe you can only map the /public part.
