hi i am having a problem when it comes to wifi connectivity, when i am away [not too far away] from the router my signal drops and sometimes cannot be connected. i check the device manager>NETWORK ADAPTERS and i see RALINK RT3290802.11bgn Wi-Fi adapter, then i check the other laptop [windows 7] at our house which has a broadcom wifi adapter.. I am thinking if it is possible that i uninstall the RALINK RT3290802.11bgn Wi-Fi adapter on my windows 8 and replace itwith broadcom (is this possible?will i get problems or compatibility issues?)

It helps to know what the manufacturer & model of the router is. Also with laptops. The antenna is just a small piece of foil with a small rectangular section that is the actual antenna. Some people have found using a USB adapter with an external antenna helps to improve connection to routers that are set at lower power by the manufacturer, or the manufacturer uses low -db antennas on their equipment.

Also try changing the Wifi channel on your router to Channel 1 or 5 if they are not as congested. You can check for how congested the airwaves are, by using inSSIDer.

thanks for ur reply but here is a thing that comes to my mind, correct me if i am wrong..

here is the adapter installed on my HP 1000-1406AU Notebook PC [Ralink RT3290 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter] and i after searching for the drivers of the notebook i came on to this site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...t=5437438#N417 and found out that there are 2 wifi adapter available for download, question: do u think if i uninstalled the Ralink RT3290 and replace with 1. MediaTek(Ralink)802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN (WLAN) Adapter 2. Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows will it work?

That is not your router. You posted the same information as you did in post #1. Minus the fact of what laptop you are using. Do not use the Microsoft drivers. Stick with the HP drivers. There is no need to update the driver as long as the HP one works.

Majority of the time it is as I stated before, the fact that the antenna on laptops are not that great. That is why people that use their laptops on networks that may be low powered or public hotspots that the person may be on the fringe edge of the network. Use a USB adapter with an external antenna.
