Windows 8-8.1 Service, Windows Connection Manager

Recently I've been trying to 'tweak' my install of Windows by either disabling, or setting to manual particular services that I don't need. One service has caught my attention, and that's the Windows Connection Manager. For the life of me I cannot understand what it's supposed to do, does it manage wireless connectivity from my computer to my network, or is for connections overall?

As a home user, with no particular set up between my computer and any devices, merely just my modem to my laptop, will I ever need such a service running in the background as it does?

I just feel uncomfortable not knowing what this is, and whether or not it's something I could do away with from either disabling or setting the start-up of the service to manual.

Hi there. A little time saver > Copy and paste anything into native search (Windows key + Q) will automatically bring up search results. e.g. Your "Windows Connection Manager".

Hello Gypsie, I read both of the articles through the links you've provided, but I'am still unclear as to what Windows Connection Manager is. The first link I don't think can help me too much, as it describes 'Connection Manager' not 'Windows Connection Manager' which is apparently unique to 'Windows 8 and 8.1'.

The second however, describes it as being something to manage my network, between my computer and the wireless connections of various devices? (i.e printers, phones, other computers?)

Suffice to say, I do not use any of these devices to connect to my laptop, but then again, i'm only speculating, and still don't really know what this thing is.

Thank you for the help anyway, but I do not think it's what i'm looking for.

You could take a look at Black Viper's website which details the Windows (Microsoft) services, non-Microsoft software that you have installed may have added a service which are generally not detailed:

Black Viper?s Windows 8.1 Service Configurations

Please be careful when making any changes.

In the case, of WCM service, Black Viper's suggestion is to leave it in Automatic mode.
