Hi,

I had problems updating one of my PC's to the latest Windows 8.1 64 bit so ended up having to "Refresh" the PC. I then managed to get the updates installed.

Before the update I used to be able to see my Synology Diskstation and Humax Foxsat listed as Computers in File Exlorer when selecting Network, I could then get a full list of folders on each device and files could be easily transfered between them. Neither device is now listed under Computers.

They still appear in File Explorer on my other Windows 8.1 PC under Computer.

How do I get them to appear under Computers again?

Router is the first place to start looking. What is the manufacturer & model of the router? Are you sure that LLTD is enabled in Services? Can you ping the other computers from the Command Window?

It is possible that the Synology is also causing the issue. Never rule out anything. Any devices should show up under Network. You can also use the following website to help make sure you are not forgetting anything. EZLAN.NET.

Hi broe23,

Thanks for the pointers.

The router is an Asus RT-N66U, where do I start on that? LLTD was set to manual so I set it to automatic but still no go. Both devices can be pinged from a command prompt.

By the way, I didn't say before but the PC is connected to a switch using an Ethernet cable as are the two other devices.

Also, the Diskstation is showing in File Explorer under Media Devices and Other Devices as it always did but clicking those links launches a browser and access is then via a web page. If I could access it under Computers I would be able to see the folder and file structure. The Humax doesn't show under Media or Other Devices but it never did.

I just tried putting \\DISKSTATION and \\FOXSAT-HDR in the address bar of File Explorer and I got error 0x80004005 so I ran the trouble shooter. The Foxsat link came back with this:-

Problem found
The remote device or resource won't accept the connection Detected !
Detailed Information
The device or resource (FOXSAT-HDR) is not set up to accept connections on port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)".

Can anyone point in the right direction from here?

At last I found the cause of my problem, during my Windows Refresh some Windows features were turned off, make sure this is enabled:-

Control Panel / Programs and Features / Turn Windows Features On or Off and make sure SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support is ticked

network devices are not showing in network

Be on the computer that network devices are not showing. Right click on the desktop choose new then choose shortcut.
In the Type the location of the item \\Name of the shared device you want to open.
Then name the shortcut. Double click the shortcut it will take you to the device. I did this 3 or four times then the computers started showing up.

Thank you TechMate!
I have searched multiple forums and applied/checked multiple solutions without success, wasting multiple days of time, until I came accross your very simple solution. I am on Windows 10 pro version 1607 and could not get the network devices to show up in file explorer. After entering \\LapTopName about 6 or 7 times, the icon suddenly appeared after the search was completed. To my joy the icon for my Enigma2 satellite receiver (a Vu+ Duo 2) appeared at the same time. Now, even after a system reboot the network map is complete at last!

I'm having this same problem since the Windows 10 Creators Update. I can see it if I use \\Computer Name.
My computer cannot be seen on the Network. Does that mean it is not discoverable even though I have made it discoverable?

Is there a fix for it?

This is a bit late but I have to thank Terry, (TechMate) for your fix of my Diskstation not showing up under Network Computers. I have tried so many options that I found searching the net but none of them worked. I have another PC with Windows 10  that sees the DS no problem but I could not get it to see it in Win 7 even though in the past it was there. Using your suggestion I was able to not only access all my file in the DS without having to log in but lo and behold, it suddenly appeared in my Network. Thank you so much again and I hope others who have this issue find your solution
