It should be simple if you use the crossover cable to connect the 2 PC's and set it up from this link:

    Thanks mate!

In my search for a solution, I never found anything like that. However, Step 3 (Local User Accounts) needs more details. I'll look into later.

On a musical theme, "Do You Know the Way to San, Jose"

From the 60s, Shirley Bassey if I remember correctly. Great song!

    Thanks, Michael.

USB Flash drives are not a viable, nor a cheap, alternative when you have a lot of files to transfer especially when the necessary tools are already at hand.
They are when they are now under $70 for a 1TB Pocket Drive. I keep one around for stuff like this. Easier to just connect the drive, copy the files over to it. Then going through the headaches that the OP is looking at.

USB drives are a more viable option and are used all of the time for file transfers.

Ah, sorry, I thought you were referring to USB Flash (SSD) drives. If you had mentioned a Hard Drive in an External Enclosure, I would have understood because that's what I have researched for management of my Backups.

You can if you want to go that route. Just had a customer get the Crucial M500 240 GB SSD for under $120 a couple of weeks ago. Well worth it if you are tossing the drive around.

The Canvio drives are going for $70 for the 1TB on newegg.com right now. Great drive for the price. Very solid and stands up to accidentally knocking off of a table onto the floor (been there, done that). Compared to some of the other drives out there. Not stating to do that with a drive, due to there could be some risks to loosing data.
