New Computer (Toshiba Satellite L75) Internet Issues

I have purchased a new Toshiba Satallite L75 laptop with windows 8.1 installed onto it, and the internet download speed is about 5kb per second when its stationed in my room. (My room is about 25 ft away from the router give or take) However when it is right next to the router (where I am now) the download speed spikes up between 25mb to 45mb per second, and this is a significant change. My other three computers that run windows 7 and one windows xp run fine with 20-30mps on average.

I took this to other places too, such as a Starbucks, Martin's Cafe, TGI Fridays, and Panera to try and see if it was just my router, but all of them have the same exact issue. Where I've been able to use my previous laptop's there with no problem, I can't with this one.

I have looked online, and have tried a ton of diffrent things, however nothing has came to my assistance.

Any solutions or ideas? Should I take it back in hopes of finding a new one?

EDIT: This is SOLVED,however the reason why it is solved is because I returned my computer and got another one. TY>

    Welcome to Windows NineForums, RoxyRose.

Sounds to me that it may be something is wrong with the antenna in the case. Advise that you contact or take it to the place of purchase to have it looked at. It could be a bad design, but I’d check that out first.

Good luck to you and, again, welcome.

    Hi RoxieRose,

It appears there are others that are not happy with the wifi performance on this specific model so it may apply to yours as well. However, at least one person in this thread "claims" to have fixed his/her specific issue so you can either try it and/or return it as others have done. You could also wait for more feedback as well Good luck with your decision from here:

The antenna on Toshiba Laptops is up in the upper left side of the lid. What does "netsh wlan show all" show for signal quality? Enter the command in a command window without the quotes.

The biggest issue is that Microsoft/Windows Update is loading Microsoft's own driver for the Network cards, vs the OEM or Chipset manufacturer driver.

My son was complaining about half speeds on his Satellite C850D-st3nx1 model. I went through the basics, and when I started looking at the driver. Found out that Windows update had installed a new driver for the Realtek card.

Downloaded from Realtek's site the latest driver, and speeds went back to normal. Now he has a Intel 7260 Wireless-ac Dual-band, with an extra antenna I installed. Now he gets 300mbps vs. 150mbps on the Single Antenna Realtek.

To fix this problem please follow the directions in the second post down in the following link. You only need to click the link in the second post in order to download the new driver.

After installing the Lenovo driver you should check Windows updates for the Windows version of this driver and then right click it and choose "hide this update" so it doesn't reinstall itself.

I really am getting aggravated here, it has been almost five days of stress and annoyance that I have to go through just to get a decent internet connection on a Toshiba Satelite. I returned the previous one, thinking it was defective and then bought another one at another store (the original was out of stock).

I have had a bit more success on this new computer, where the max download speed is 3mb compared to the horrid .5kb from the last computer, although this one still will spike down to that if it has to run more than one internet related program. This old HP that I'm on can get between 25-35 mbs, and the computer that I ended up giving away to my sibling was hitting 35-40mb on average, so as you can see this slowness is aggravating, especially on a NEW COMPUTER.

I can't just move the router to the computer, as I'm still living at home (so the router stays at my dads computer sessions) and I don't want to use a wire, because this is suppose to be a wireless laptop. I'm not going back to the dark ages of 2002 here.

What is really bad is that I'm looking through all these guides and stuff, and while I have some tech knowledge, I'm just not getting some of the stuff, and really don't have a lot of knowledge on wifi.

So far what I've came across is.
-The problem is that the wifi card that comes with these laptops sucks, especilly when walls are involved.
-The driver needs to be reinstalled, updated, reset again, disabled, re-enabled, removed, brought back to life, be fed three times a day, and to let it go outside for once an hour.
-The default settings on this computer suck.

I really just want to play some games with my friends, do my school work (e-books included), and just have a machine that can actually run the internet outside of googles home page.

Most likely dad has throttled you. Is why you are not getting fast speeds.

Well no, that was not the reason; as this was happening in public spots too. Including where I work at (as I could go right next to the router).

I kind of solved this issue, by just returning the toshiba and getting another brand computer. I got an HP instead; and I'm back at my speeds of 15-30mbs instead of that horrid .5-1mbs that I was getting on the Toshibas.

There were a ton of wifi related updates I had to go through first before I got that speed, but it is much faster. Plus I saved 100$ on this computer with the only loss being 250 gb.

A lot of the issues is with the mini-cards & antennas. Sometimes the wire for the antenna has a nick in it, which causes the mini-card to not pick up WiFi. That is why I usually will suggest to try a USB adapter.

I found with the Intel mini Card I put in my Satellite C850D-st3nx1's, in place of the Realtek's that were in them. Work better. Especially having the second antenna.

I kept the old mini-card's, in case I come across someone needing one for a replacement.
