    Wireless issues

I have an HP envy 15 notebook

recently i have been experiencing issues, i did all the "recommended updates or drivers/software" but every now and then my connection becomes limited with the yellow triangle and !, I ran the troubleshooter and it says "gateway cannot be resolved" but other things on my network (phone, laptop, ps3) all have wireless connectivity

Im not sure if im having this issue because of a driver issue, or what it could be but it just started happening last week, and i have had this laptop for 3-4 months with no issues..

Would help to know what wifi card you have. Windows has a habit of updating drivers online that don't need updating and actually make things worse.

Good luck with Ralink RT3290, appears to be a junk card. Search reveals all kinds of problems. I'll do some further searching but doesn't look good.

What about drivers from HP site?

Actually the Ralink chipset is better then the Realtek. You can get the latest driver from Downloads - MediaTek

I changed the Realtek mini-card on both of my Toshiba Satellite C850D-st3nx1's to the Intel 7260 Wireless-ac Dual band mini-card with no problem. It is going for $28. Now I did have to use Ubuntu Backports on one of my units, when I installed Xubuntu for school. It is a trial by fire when you get a unit with one particular chipset, and run into issues with Windows 8.x not playing nice.

Windows 7 did not have nearly the large amount of hardware issues as 8.x is having at this point. A lot has to do with Microsoft did not release the code in time to the manufacturers, to create the drivers.

I changed out the cards, due to I wanted to take advantage of the 300mbps Access Point I had. Also wanted to be capable of accessing a Wireless-ac A/P if I decide to swap out the one I have, once the Wireless-ac units come down in price.

Plus you never know if you are going to be somewhere that they use 5ghz or have Wireless-ac. Always be on the ready.

Now of course I did have to open up the case and in order to put the second antenna in both units. I could not pull the wire up the hinge, due to both have no room, so I placed them just right behind the battery, inside the case. If I had an extra USB Port (one is taken up by the mouse receiver, the other by a USB powered fan on my lap-pad), I would have just gone with a USB adapter. But then, where is all of the fun.
