    Windows 8.1 - Network Discovery WON'T SAVE APPLIED CHANGES

    Dear Reader/s,

    I am currently running Windows 8.1 with the latest updates that come up daily.

    However, I have run into an issue where;

    Private Networks + Public Networks are not able to apply changes to turning ON network discovery. Therefore when I open network it comes out with only the connected devices such as laptops/notebooks and personal-computers. It will not display the Network Infastructure which is my modem router + routers + range extenders. As well as my printer that is connected. When I click on "Change Advanced Sharing Settings", and click on the box to TURN ON Network Discovery for both Public and Private networks, and "Save Changes". These changes are NOT applied, and therefore I receive no network mapping at all. And this has created quite an annoyance for me. Contemplating a safe return to Windows 7 Ultimate.

    Please advise and help me, my other notebook is running Windows 8. And can currently view the network mapping and I can change all the settings with ease, as so this is quite frustrating. Never truly had a Windows issue until this. If you wish to view images, please post a reply asking so, and I shall portray my issue visually.

    I thank everyone in advanced if you can, or try to help me!

    This problem is typically caused from either the firewall rules were tampered with or the base filtering engine requires fixing.

    Following the instructions to repair the base filtering engine in the following link. Basically just run the Sirefef cleaning tool per the instructions in the link. This problem has come up many times in the past.

    Pay no attention to the Eset error message as it doesn't relate in this situation.

    Have you tried resetting the Windows firewall to default?

    Are you running any type of third party anti virus or firewall?

    I have reset the Windows Firewall to default as my first option after you mentioned it. However it had no effect. I was also running a third-party firewall from Kaspersky, however I closed it and ended the process. This made no difference in the end. I'm getting really worried here, because i'm having massive issues with connecting to my printer and the rest of my network.

    But, thank you for your help thus far. Seems like you're the only person able to help or bothered.

    I would consider removing the Kaspersky firewall or A/V completely form the system using the special tool for uninstalling it. Many of these A/V software's don't work with Windows 8 very well.

    How to uninstall Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013
    Sorry for the late response, been busy lately. I uninstalled and removed Kaspersky altogether and found out that it didn't help at all. So now i'm running with absolutely no A/V, and currently still haven't been able to resolve my issue. I really don't wish to resort to a fresh Windows 8.1 flash, but if it's required I will do it. Any other suggestions before it gets to that?

    At this point you should try running the system repair scans as outlined in the following link.
