So I had enabled the Administrator account for a bit, then went back in and Disabled it after I created a second account that had administrator privileges. Now under Network I still see 2 Media servers, listed under media Devices, for this computer.

1. Computer Name: Administrator
2 Computer Name: My E-mail account, the active account I am using

Any idea how to remove the listed Administrator Account since it is not needed, and no longer active?

If this was on that computer, go to Device Manager and click on "Show Hidden Devices" in the View pull down. If it does not show in there, would need more information as to what these media devices are, and if they were on the network, or on that computer.

For some reason UPnP & DLNA on the computers remember them. Also the router can be the culprit and still has the IP assigned to the device, so windows still remembers it.

Try a ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns and netsh winsock reset catalog, to see if that clears the ghost devices from the system.

So I did the flush dns, that did not work
I rebooted the router, nothing, still cam back on reboot.
I checked in the device manager, and nothing shows up by that name.

The key is both devices that is showing up are this computer, it is showing up twice under 2 different accounts. the account I use, and the administrator account (That is no longer active, I disabled it again) , but the only place it shows up is in the Network.

They both show the same assigned windows IP address, but different serial numbers.

Even if I turn off/block all devices through windows media player streaming options, the administrator account shows back up, the other one does not.

By default Win Media player has a network service enabled . Each computer with this service enabled will show up in networking as a shared network device .
I personally do not want this to happen .
If you do not want these devices to show under networking . You need to do this on both or all pc's on the network . Open Control Panel . Open Administrative Tools . Right click Services and click Run as Administrator . Scroll down to the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service . Right click that service , click Properties . In the Startup type box click the down arrow , select and click Disabled . Click Apply to save the changes . If the service is running click Stop , when the service stops click OK . Close the Services window .

Back to the Control Panel open Devices and Printers . Those two devices should be listed as devices . Right click each one and delete them . Click OK or whatever pops up in the warning .

Restart the computers after you done with the changes .

I have 3 W8 pc's and 1 W7 computer on my network . I have done the above to all four machines with no ill effects . Hope this help you

sparky you might have make the changes in the admin account first and then your account to make this work .

I would like the media device to show up, because I use the sharing with the other 2 computers and the X-box, however I don't understand, or like why this one machine is showing up as 2 different media devices. I would like to get rid of the first media device(Admin)

1. Computer Name: Administrator
2 Computer Name: My E-mail account, the active account I am using

I was able to duplicate your issue . I created a MS account with my Hotmail address . On restarting my computer I ended up with 2 media devices just like you did .
I have tried everything I know of to remove the local admin's account media device with no luck .
As per Leo Huang's reply in the Tech Net link you posted this appears to be " As designed " however faulty .
Sorry I could not help with this .

Thanks for duplicating, it makes no sense why it works this way, but at least it is consistent and I can stop wasting time trying to figure out something that can't be fixed. I really appreciate you duplicating it!
Thanks Again.
