How to access a shared folder in LAN via WIFI

3 computers connected in LAN, with a shared folder/drive.

Suppose I have access to the WIFI on the same network.
I have access to the router also(means I can type in browser, 192.168.1.1 and can login). Then in DHCP hosts I can see the connected computers ip address.

Then how will I access the shared folder?

I don't know the server name. How will we find out the server name?
I don't know the name of shared folder also. How will we find out the shared folder in the network?

As long as all computers are set as "Private Network" for the adapters, the firewall allows other computers to see the shares, you should not have any problems accessing. You do have to share a folder, if you want others to have access to it.

I think unless you have a Pro version, that you will have to be part of a home group to share files, Pro versions still support Peer to Peer however, Core does not.

what is network password?

i can't see the shared folder.
when i did the following in windows 8 it asked for "network password".
->right click on desktop->new->shortcut->in link box i typed->\\192.168.2.22\Stud
this is my friends Ip and shared folder, but it asked network password.

i entered wifi password, and my user name and password, his user name password. didn't work anything.

what will be the network password and username? how can i find out?

To connect to his share, if it is not set as a "Public" share. You would have to use his username and password. Both computers have to be under the same Workgroup. I leave mine all set at "Workgroup". Right click on the folder you wish to share, and choose "Properties", then click on the "Share" tab and set it up as a Public share.

Also make sure that the firewall allows both to have netbios (port 137) available.

Home Group works the same, whether it is a Home version or Pro version.

You will have to set up home group to share files. Peer to peer networks only work the pro versions

Peer to Peer will work with any edition. You do not need Pro version of Windows to do regular file sharing.
