Hi All,
I have win 8.1 on an Intel i5-3230M, Samsung NP470RSE
problem is following:
anything I change in network configurations causes "com surrogate has stopped working"

For instance: network connections --> Ethernet proprieties --> uncheck Client for Microsoft networks --> Ok --> OK --> "com surrogate has stopped working"

Same could happen if instead of uncheck Client for Microsoft networks I do a change in IP configuration, or uncheck/check something else. Could be on the ethernet or on the wifi does not matter.
The error is
Faulting application name: DllHost.exe, version: 6.3.9600.16384, time stamp: 0x5215dfc6
Faulting module name: netcfgx.dll, version: 6.3.9600.16384, time stamp: 0x5215d8e5
Exception code: 0xc0000005

Did the same in safe mode, still happens but with generic error message (not the com surrogate) and in the log is
Faulting application name: Explorer.EXE, version: 6.3.9600.16441, time stamp: 0x5265dec8
Faulting module name: netcfgx.dll, version: 6.3.9600.16384, time stamp: 0x5215d8e5
Exception code: 0xc0000005

Frankly not sure what to do. I did search around but the com surrogate sound more problem is more often related to video.
I updated all drivers and did windows update. Running out ideas, any help please?

Thanks!

I can't seem to reproduce the problem by disabling Client for Msoft networks and hitting Ok, from what I have read it can be a few different problems causing this error message.

There seems to be a Windows 8 fix it and one for Windows 7 as well. They both show similar steps you can take to fix the problem although the Windows 7 version seems more complete and has a comments section that may provide more help. The lower two links look similar but they lead to different pages.

I also read that certain graphics drivers can cause the problem and rolling back can fix this. So many different causes it's hard to nail it down.

You could try this.
If it doesn't help you can always change it back:

That is about all I can find on this. It can be so many different things causing the problem that it's nearly impossible to nail it down to any one thing.

You might try running system file or DISM scan's though I'm not sure they apply in this case.

Good!!!! I fix this

my computer is asus G75Vx, w8 for default, but now i install 8.1, and after install "connectify" for give wireless service, I had the same problem, and search in any deep place of internet and nothing, because the problem about "com surrogate" was diferent in all sites.
so, i unistall all networks drives(wired and wireless), windows automatically install a new network drive. and lather i install my old windows 8 (DVD) driver and all is Ok.
