It's easy if you're not using WPA2 with AES encryption. If you are, and with a long password including random number/charaters/shifts/number shifts (for both admin account and network access), then nobody is going to guess the password, unless the NSA is after you lol.

If you're only using WEP, it can be hacked in a figurative blink of an eye, especially from a Linux machine with proper tools (even if you hide SSID and filter MAC addresses.)

What can be done to a certain extent still, is man-in-the-middle type of attacks. You're average wannabe teenage hacker is never going to be able to accomplish this. You'd have to have a serious enemy - my point is - don't worry.

Many routers have intentional backdoors which is more troublesome than anything - but again - the average general public is unaware.

For those that are of extreme paranoid type, which is unnecessary to be - there is professional solution known as RADIUS. Places like banking institutions and the like deploy this.

It is done all of the time by the Black & White hats. How do you think that problems are found in software & hardware.

MasterChief, of course we all know about the whole Cisco backdoor fiasco.

I used to do it for the college I worked at a few years ago. They paid me and about 4 other to sit outside the dorms and crack the student's wifi. If we were successful, the network admin would find out what port the router was on and then we would know which dorm it was in. We would then go ask the owner of the wifi to strengthen their security.

It was one of the best jobs I've ever had.
